Bald Head Island, N.C. โ€“ Shoreline Management Program

In order to facilitate the federal navigation project mitigation, the firm performed long-term comprehensive monitoring, designed and permitted a 16-sand tube groin field as well as a 1.85 Mcy beach fill.

Brevard County Federal Shore Protection Project

For beach restoration along this 40-mile coastline that includes Cocoa Beach and Melbourne Beach, Olsen Associates, Inc. (OAI) has been the coastal engineering consultant for Brevard County since 1989.

Brevard County Mid-Reach Shore Protection Project

Olsen Associates, Inc. (OAI) completed a comprehensive assessment of the rock resource and a Feasibility Study for shore protection alternatives (2003) which evolved into a beach/dune restoration project for the shoreline.  This project will be ultimately incorporated to the Brevard County Federal Shore Protection Project (2011).

Broward County, FL Shore-Stabilizing Structure Feasibility Study

Olsen Associates Inc. completed a feasibility study to evaluate the physical- and cost-effectiveness of incorporating shore-stabilization structures into the County’s regional beach management program with the specific goal of improving beach conditions such that future beach nourishment requirements along the County’s 24-mile long ocean coastline could potentially be reduced. 

Broward County, Florida Federal Shore Protection Project (Segments II and III)

Through a Joint-Venture contract, Olsen Associates, Inc. is the Engineer-of-Record for the planning, design, permitting, construction and monitoring of projects along the Broward County Segment II and III shorelines.

Canaveral Harbor Federal Navigation Project; Inlet Sand Management

Olsen Associates, Inc. (OAI) has been the coastal engineering consultant for the Canaveral Port Authority since 1991. 

City of Gulf Shores, AL, Beach Restoration Project

This project, funded by the City, was constructed in 2000-2001and involved the placement of 1.65 million cubic yards of sand along the eastern 3.1 miles of Gulf Shores, AL. 

Coral Reef Restoration, Key Largo Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary

Under contract to Industrial Economics Corporation (IEC), and working closely with Continental Shelf Associates (CSA) and the construction contractor, Olsen Associates Inc. (OAI) was the Engineer of Record for the world’s first large-scale structural restoration of a coral reef damaged by vessel groundings

Federal Navigation Project Mitigation

Olsen Associates, Inc. has provided technical assistance, impact analysis and expert witness testimony to identify and mitigate beach erosion along shorelines adjacent to federal navigation projects throughout the southeast US.

Federal Shore Protection Project Implementation

The firm has represented numerous local government sponsors in varying roles necessary to implement congressionally authorized Shore Protection Projects.

FEMA Dune Repair, Brevard County FL

In response to severe beach erosion caused by severe storms, Brevard County has implemented large-scale dune and vegetation repair in multiple construction events (2005, 06, 08, 09), spanning over 17 miles of shoreline, and using multiple upland sand sources.

Fish Haul Creek Shoreline Restoration Project

Olsen Associates, Inc. prepared a feasibility study that detailed shoreline change history and erosion problems along 10,000 feet of Port Royal Sound shoreline on Hilton Head Island. 

Fisher Island, Shore Stabilization Project

Olsen Associates, Inc. designed and permitted the first U.S. beach restoration project with imported Bahamian sand and pioneered the modern use of "tuned" T-Head groin structures in Florida.

Fort Clinch, Florida: Erosion Control Project

This project required the construction and rehabilitation of five (5) rock groins located seaward of historic Fort Clinch, near the Florida/Georgia border. 

Hilton Head Island: Tidal Channel Relocation Project at Port Royal Plantation

In 1997, Olsen Associates, Inc. was the Engineer-of-Record for the relocation of a large tidal channel located at the northern end of Hilton Head Island. 

Hilton Head Island: 1990 Beach Restoration; 1997 and 2006/07 Beach Renourishments

Olsen Associates, Inc. (OAI) has been the coastal engineering consultant to the Town of Hilton Head Island since 1985.  During that time, OAI has assisted the Town with general coastal engineering consulting needs for a long-term island-wide beach monitoring program that is based upon comprehensive beach restoration and management.  

Hilton Head Island: Lands End Groin Rehabilitation

Olsen Associates, Inc. (OA) is the Engineer-of-Record for a terminal groin rehabilitation project on Hilton Head Island.

Nassau County Shore Protection Project

As the City of Fernandina Beach's coastal engineering consultant, OAI functioned as permit agent, acquired all shorefront easements and developed the borrow site for a federally constructed shore protection project.

Orange Beach/Gulf State Park/Gulf Shores Beach Restoration Project

The City of Orange Beach, the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR), and the City of Gulf Shores, AL , pooled resources to restore 15.3 miles of the Baldwin County, AL Gulf of Mexico shoreline.

Palm Beach County, Florida; Ocean Ridge Federal Shore Protection Project

This is a Federal project constructed in 1997-98 by the local sponsor (Palm Beach County) with subsequent reimbursement by the Federal government. 

Patrick Air Force Base โ€“ Revetment and Beach Fill

Olsen Associates, Inc. (OAI) has been the principal coastal engineering consultant to the 45th Space Wing, U. S. Air Force, at Patrick Air Force Base, FL since 1995. 

Pensacola Beach, FL, Beach Restoration Project

As coastal engineering consultants to the SRIA, Olsen Associates, Inc., performed design, permitting, bidding, contract management, and construction observation/reporting services for the 2002-2003 restoration of 8.1 miles of the Gulf of Mexico shoreline at Pensacola Beach in Escambia County, FL.

Port Everglades Sand Bypassing

Olsen Associates, Inc. is the Engineer-of-Record for the planning, design, permitting, construction and monitoring of a sand bypass project at Port Everglades.  As designed, the project will include the construction of a sand trap, improvements to the Port Everglades north jetty, and accommodation of periodic sand transfer every 2 to 3 years.

Rudee Inlet, Virginia โ€“ Management Study and Infrastructure Rehabilitation

For this small craft navigation project in Virginia Beach, Olsen Associates, Inc. was responsible for the principal coastal engineering analysis of the inlet’s sediment transport processes and dredging practices, sediment budget, hydrodynamics, and formulation of technical recommendations to improve the efficiency of sand management at the inlet and reliability of safe navigation. 

Sea Pines Resort: 18th Green Marsh Restoration Project, Hilton Head Island

Olsen Associates, Inc. is the Engineer-of-Record for a shoreline stabilization and marsh restoration project adjacent to the 18th Green of Harbour Town Golf Links on Calibogue Sound at Hilton Head Island, SC.  The project, which is required to address high shoreline retreat rates and extensive spartina marsh loss, will include the construction of six detached rock breakwaters, sand fill, and the planting of more than 3 acres of Spartina alternifloramarsh grass.

South Amelia Island Shore Stabilization Project

Olsen Associates, Inc. has been the long-term consultant to the SAISSA-MSBU since its formation in 1992.

St. Andrews Ocean Condominium Protective Seawall

The project included permitting, design and construction of a protective steel sheetpile wall along 300-ft of oceanfront shoreline seaward of endangered buildings in Palm Beach County, with 50-ft return walls.

St. Mary's Entrance Inlet Management

Olsen Associates, Inc. assisted in the facilitation of a Sand Management Plan at this federal navigation project which has resulted in the strategic placement of over 5 mcy of sand on Amelia Island, FL.

State Parks, Florida

Olsen Associates, Inc. provides coastal engineering services to the Division of Parks and Recreation, FDEP regarding ocean, gulf, river or esturine environments within State Parks located throughout Florida.

Tybee Island, Georgia; Beach Management Plan

The plan and strategy for beach management at Tybee Island, Georgia was developed by Olsen Associates, Inc and the firm assists the city in its implementation.

Tybee Island, Georgia; Shoreline Stabilization Projects

Olsen Associates Inc. designed this project at the southern extremity of Tybee Island, Georgia, using three T-head groins as terminal structures to stabilize a severely eroded shoreline.
