Description:
Olsen Associates, Inc. (OAI) is the Engineer-of-Record for a terminal groin rehabilitation project on Hilton Head Island. This structure, which was originally constructed in the early 1970’s, is located at the southern end of the island’s sand beach system and serves to retain sand within the beach system while preventing sand from shoaling an adjacent tidal creek that is used for light commercial and recreational navigation. Following more than 35 years of service, the structure came into disrepair and required a comprehensive rehabilitation. OAI formulated, permitted, successfully completed the rehabilitation plan in 2010. As part of the permitting effort, OAI served as an expert witness in an administrative challenge to the project by adjacent property owners and worked with Town officials to addresses concerns of those parties while completing a project that met the design intent.
