9 July 2025
The Contractor, Marinex Construction, Inc., completed dredging and sand placement on July 8th south of Sadler Road.
Marinex is completing post-construction surveys and pulling out pipeline and equipment and moving gear back to Dolphin Street for demobilization. The contractor hopes to have the Sadler Road access area cleared of equipment by the end of this week. Demobilization will take 1-2 weeks, please remain aware of equipment moving along the beach.
In a few weeks, Marinex will run equipment over the new beach berm to decompact and dress the sand for protection of nesting sea turtles. Amelia Island Sea Turtle Watch successfully relocated 20 nests during the course of construction.

Marinex Construction has reached the Sadler Road public access, and anticipates roughly one more week of sand placement to complete the project.
The Seaside Park Beach Access will remain closed until the project is complete next week and the shorepipe can be removed from the beach. Pedestrian access will remain open, with pedestrian “detours” to open/accessible beach either to the north or south of the active work area.
Sea turtle nest monitors continue to watch the summer season carefully and have relocated 18 nests to safe locations along the shoreline, out of the construction areas.

Marinex Construction is rapidly approaching the Sadler Road area, progressing southward in the area south of Cleveland Avenue. The City has posted the following update:
“The Seaside Park Beach Access will be closed to vehicular traffic starting Thursday morning (6/26), and will remain closed for 2-3 weeks. Pedestrian access will remain open, with pedestrian “detours” to open/accessible beach either to the north or south of the active work area.”

The Contractor has been making great progress and is approaching the Jefferson Avenue area. Sea turtle nest monitors continue daily patrols for new nests, relocating those that will be in the construction zone.

SAND PLACEMENT HAS COMMENCED!
The Contractor, Marinex Construction, Inc., commenced dredging and sand placement operations this morning around 10 AM, just north of the Dolphin Street access at Main Beach.
Startup was delayed by several days, and the schedule has been adjusted to reflect the new start date. An official schedule update will be posted as soon as possible.

Marinex Construction, Inc., has commenced the process of mobilizing equipment to the beach at the Dolphin Street beach access. Beach fill operations will commence just north of that access, in the vicinity of E. 1st and 2nd Streets. The contractor anticipates that beach sand placement operations will commence in the first half of May 2025 and may require roughly 80 days to complete (to be followed immediately by equipment demobilization). Under the PHOTOS tab, images can be found of the cutterhead-suction-pipeline dredge Savannah, which will be used to construct the project. Marinex used this dredge in 2021 to construct the South Amelia Island beach nourishment project.
Daily surveys for shorebirds and sea turtle nesting began on April 15th to ensure that the sand placement operations do not harm these species. Any sea turtle nest deposited in an area where construction is anticipated to occur will be relocated by trained personnel to other areas of the Fernandina Beach shoreline for protection until hatching occurs. This activity is closely regulated by the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission as part of the project’s permit terms and conditions. Any shorebird nesting activity will be marked for avoidance.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has made an award to Marinex Construction, Inc., of Charleston, SC, for the construction of the 2025 Nassau County Shore Protection Project. Bids for the City beach nourishment project were opened on February 19th. Work on the project is expected to commence as early as April 2025 (approx.)

Bids for the City beach nourishment project were opened on February 19th, on schedule, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is evaluating those bids for a potential award in March. Work on the project is expected to commence as early as April 2025 (approx.)

The Kings Bay Entrance Channel dredging project has commenced. The Contractor, Manson Construction Company, will be working to clear non-beach compatible material from the channel and carrying it to the offshore disposal area. Beach compatible material shall be placed along the Ft. Clinch shoreline near the fort. The City beach nourishment project is expected to commence as early as May 2025 (approx.)
